Prime minister Najib Tun Razak phoned Lee moments after the Malaysian had beaten rival Lin Dan in a riveting All England final. And no sooner had the world No 1 landed in Kuala Lumpur than he was being lauded at his official residence on Tuesday morning.
In a speech, Najib believed that the 28 year-old could finally win Malaysia's first gold medal at next year's Olympics after Lin beat Lee in the Beijing final in 2008.
"This is my hope and the hope of 27 million Malaysians," Najib said.
"This is our big ambition (in sports), our supreme dream that requires the effort of all to turn into reality."
